MEMBERSHIP: by WA8TPPWELCOME to new member Joe Turkoc, N8KGG. If you hear him on the air please welcome him to the group. André Bernier, N8UZK, has changed his call to N8WJW. I wonder where he thought that up (Hi-Hi)? I also want to thank those that renewed their memberships. Your continued support is encouraging. If I missed any renewed members in the list above please excuse the oversight. If you let me know I’ll put you in the next newsletter. Again, the date of your last dues contribution is on the mailing label after your name and call, and, again, the dues are whatever you can afford or feel appropriate for you. If you haven’t contributed within the past year please take time to consider a dues payment. Don’t forget to let me know if you have a new call or if someone else in your family (at the same address) gets a new call. Also, please put your call on your checks and make them out to N.O.R.M.A. Changes in address, call sign, etc., are also appreciated. Thanks. Also, PLEASE ask a friend or new ham using the repeater to join our group. REPEATER OPERATION: WA8TPP Well by now we hope that everyone is used to the repeater in guard except for the nets. This has been required due to the interference the repeater has been experiencing. We hope that, at least, by turning the guard off for the nets no one has been inconvenienced too much. We really would like to have the machine open but the problems in doing so have not been overcome as yet. We will continue to do whatever we can to have the machine at 100% operation. Also, please let us know if you like or dislike the courtesy tone. We think that it adds to the efficiency of usage in that when you hear the tone you know the timer has been reset. Again we strive to satisfy our users. Our downtown repeater is still inoperative. We are having problems obtaining a new frequency pair from the Repeater Coordination Committee. As you know we released our 146.85 frequency to the QCWA group on the premise that we would use their old frequency but the Coordinator doesn’t seem to want to give us the use of their old frequency (146.67). We are still working with the committee to resolve the problem so that we can, again, have a repeater downtown. RF EXPOSURE REGULATIONS: by WA8TPP Effective the 1st of September, 2000 the new FCC RF Safety Rules became effective. The new rules require every station to be measured to insure compliance to RF exposure rules. Under the regulations, an amateur station must not exceed the maximum permissible FLU SHOTS: by WA8TPP Just a reminder that flu season is coming and everyone with any health problems and our senior citizens should get a flu shot. Consult your doctor if you should have one and if he doesn’t have the shots you can check with you local senior citizens center for the community in which you live. I know that Mentor’s senior citizen’s center is giving them out on November 6th but you must register prior to going there. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. (Where have I heard that before?) Keep healthy. F.C.C. ENFORCEMENT: by WA8TPP Our F.C.C. national enforcer, Riley Hollingsworth, has revoked many of the licenses held by the Tucker family from 41 to 22 including their personal calls. I see no reason why any one person/family needs so many calls. Lets give Hollingsworth all the support he needs to continue the good work he’s doing in cleaning up the rascals in the ham world.
SUMMER: by WA8TPP We by the time you receive this summer will be over and autumn well on its way. We hope that everyone had a great time this past summer. The nets will be better attended, we hope, so listen around and join in on whichever nets catch your fancy. We must support them so they do not go away and in doing so we insure that by using the frequencies we will not loose them. As they say, "use it or loose it."
