MEMBERSHIP: by WA8TPP

Welcome to new members KC8KLJ, Chrissy Haboustak, daughter of Jim, Haboustak, KB8VIX, Lee Jarchow, K8CWJ and his XYL Pat, WA8CNL and Bob Plough, KC8NIN. If you hear any of them on the air please welcome them to our group. Also congratulations to Bill Merlino on his new call, AB8HA. I also want to thank those that renewed their memberships. Your continued support is encouraging. If I missed any renewed members in the list above please excuse the oversight. If you let me know I’ll put you in the next newsletter. Again, the date of your last dues contribution is on the mailing label after your name and call, and, again, the dues are whatever you can afford or feel appropriate for you. If you haven’t contributed within the past year please take time to consider a dues payment. Don’t forget to let me know if you have a new call or if someone else in your family (at the same address) gets a new call. Also, please put your call on your checks and make them to N.O.R.M.A. Changes in address, call sign, etc., are also appreciated. Thanks. Also, PLEASE ask a friend or new ham using the repeater to join our group.

CONGRATULATIONS: by WA8TPP

We at N.O.R.M.A. want to congratulate all who upgraded their licenses at the April 15, 2000 sessions. We hope to hear more on the 2 Meter bands as well as the HF bands. We hope that the new licenses will continue to learn and upgrade their licenses. Again congratulations.

ATTACHMENT: by WA8TPP

Again we have an attachment chart displaying the expected life of a battery. Ed Reilly, W8OKE, one of the N.O.R.M.A. directors developed the chart. The information is typical of most batteries as specified on the chart. Just find the type of battery you use and check how long they will last. Remember the slower you charge your batteries the longer they will last. Using the drop in fast chargers will shorten the life of batteries so remember, slow is better.

QSL CARDS: by WA8TPP

I came across an interesting web site a few days ago. If you are into collecting QSL cards from foreign countries check out this site. It is the ARRL 8th Area QSL Bureau Page at www.mrrace.com/ARRL/QSLBureau/index.htm. There’s lots of information on incoming QSL’s including a page listing cards at the bureau waiting for envelopes. Check it out.

NEWSLETTER: by WA8TPP

Sorry that the newsletter is a little late this time. Have been busy with stuff around the house and just haven’t had time to get it out. Writing, mailing does take a good deal of time. I would like to have some input of articles, long or short, to include in the newsletter. Please do not be bashful about sending me something to include. I’d be happy to write it up for you if you do not feel like typing it. This newsletter is for you. I’d like to include what you want to see in the newsletter. Again anything you want to send in please let it fly and I’ll include it as long as it pertains to amateur radio. My phone and email address is at the end of this page. My home address is good in any call book or url call lookup on the Internet.

REPEATER USAGE: by WA8TPP

When the repeater is in use during storms, etc., there will be a "W" tail after each transmission. Usually the machine is being used by the Skywarn group. Please do not break in unless there is an emergency that requires immediate action. When there is not an immediate weather warning there may be an "S" tail to signify that the machine is in standby. All may use the repeater when it is in this mode but keep your transmission short and allow a long break to permit any emergency transmission. Your cooperation in the past has been appreciated by the Skywarn group and they are to be commended for their efforts in reporting severe weather conditions. Some day you or yours may benefit from their work by avoiding injuries due to storms.

FIELD DAY: by WA8TPP

Well another field day has come and gone and we hope everyone had a fine time. I personally didn’t do anything particular during FD but I sure would like to hear some of the stories about your field day activities to include in the next newsletter. I think all would be interested.
